Jammin' for the Lamb

It is warm enough (barely) to sit outside in the hemlock grove and do some writing by the creek.  The sun is still up, but not here, so I imagine it will be cooling rather quickly.  We’ll see how long this lasts...

We found a church to attend in Asheville, New Life Community Church.  It was almost a 20 minute drive, but well worth it.  Several things reminded us of our own church, so we felt at home here.  The band was good and one of the musicians told us we were ‘jammin’ for the Lamb’.  Great expository sermon from 1 Thessalonians 5 on the expectations of church leaders and church members.

We drove into downtown Asheville and found the visitor center, which had ample parking, and even a few spots for RVs and busses.  This became our home base for the day as piloting the RV downtown would have been more sport than I cared to participate in.

We walked the downtown district for a while, stopping in at the old Woolworth’s Center, which was now an art gallery, complete with an accurate replica of the original soda fountain.  We bought a few gifts here.  Across the street was the Chocolate Fetish.  Of course we had to stop there. Loved the scent of chocolate as we walked through the door.  They had an Easter theme at this time, with lots of chocolate bunnies and eggs in addition to all their other delectables.  We bought some gifts here also, including a choc-chuterie board with all different samples of chocolate.  This will be a great thing to share with our fellow SOWERs.

Back to the RV for lunch, and then we sent back to the same district for some additional attractions.  Asheville is very hilly, reminds me a bit of San Francisco without the trolleys, so walking was usually either steeply uphill  or steeply downhill.  This time it was downhill to Broadway Street, and the ‘Moogseum’, a small space dedicated to the life and work of Robert Moog, who pioneered the musical synthesizer.  He also made the Theremin commercially available after perfecting the plans he found in a hobbyist magazine.

They had a replica of his workbench in the museum.  This made me feel old as I recognized and even used similar equipment in my work.  Deb said this desk reminded her a lot of my desk at home.

We stopped at the Pepper Palace, a place dedicated to pepper sauces, salsas, BBQ sauces and the like.  Left with a couple of jars of BBQ sauce, a fruity one and a Honey Chipotle Rum BBQ, on recommendation from the owner.

Down the steep hill into the River Art District and browsed through a few art galleries and a glass shop, then back up the hill to the RV.  We drove back to the Cove and made dinner.

After dinner we brought out the plate of chocolates we bought in town and invited our fellow SOWERs over for treats.  Had some nice conversation which ended because we were all getting cold. Tomorrow we start orientation.

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
