After morning devotions during which Jeff read from Philippians 2 and shared some of his thoughts, Jim and I took our tools over to the Bridge to Nowhere, a small footbridge near the camp entrance which just appears to be a bridge over a shallow depression in the ground. A while back there was a small fish pond underneath the bridge, but any time they tried to stock it with a few fish, the raccoons had a nice dinner and all the fish disappeared. So now it is a bridge in the middle of nowhere. It is, however one of the first features that is seen when entering the camp, so it needed to be fixed up.
We pulled rotted floorboards and put the handrails and slats back in place. One difficulty in a project like this is knowing when to quit. Everything had at least a little bit of deterioration and it finally came down to replacing only those parts that we had material on hand for. Otherwise, we would have probably rebuilt the entire bridge.
Once that was done and all the dew had evaporated from everything, we painted the bleachers that we had fixed up yesterday. The new paint and old paint didn’t quite match, but after a few weeks in the Florida weather, the new paint will probably reach a patina that looks much like the old.
Lots of painting going on as all the others were painting the mini-golf course. This was a priority because of a youth rally that is supposed to take place this weekend. Other priority items are the outdoor lighting that doesn’t come on at night around the girl’s dormitory, some signs that need to be built, and (of course) lots of cleaning. A lot of this will probably be done tomorrow. The women continued to attack the kitchen and commented to Bo this morning that it was starting to look really clean. “Oh, we’ll fix that this weekend,” he commented with a grin.
The women all piled into one of the SOWER’s trucks and went to town to do some shopping this afternoon while we finished some of the painting tasks for the day. After they returned, we all played a few rounds of Scatter, a lawn game that Jim and Marsha brought with them. I came in dead last on the first round and won the second round.
