A Day of Rest

We drove exactly two miles today.  That was the distance from one campsite to another in the Moffitt Beach Campground.  We were thinking of taking a hike about a half-hour drive from here, but decided to just lay low for a day and just do some fun stuff around here.  So I found a campsite right along the water of Sacandaga Lake and reserved it online.  After streaming our church service, we checked out of one site, checked into the other, and stayed here for the day.

Technology can be a real double-edged sword.  It can be instrumental in a lot of harm,  but can be very helpful as well.  When we travel, it helps us stay connected with those back home, and we used it to participate in the worship service at our church this morning.  Great service, great sermon on joy from Philippians 1.  Watching it on an iPad is a far cry from actually attending the service, but it does allow us to keep up and to remain under the teaching of the Word.

Once we settled in to our new campsite we unloaded the kayaks and paddled around on Sacandaga Lake for a while.  The wind was starting to pick up and it was quite overcast so we wanted to get this in before the weather deteriorated any more. It was a leisurely paddle, pleasant in spite of the wind and the waves.  At one point, Deb spotted a bald eagle and we watched it for a while as it landed at the top of a tall tree and surveyed the area.  It seemed very unconcerned about our presence.

When you have a campsite right on the water’s edge with correctly spaced trees, you can’t not hang a hammock and spend some time swinging from the trees.  This doesn’t happen very often so we took full advantage of the situation.

I also launched the drone and took some aerials of the area.  The sun poked through a couple times, but never when I had the drone in the air.  This area has a lot of lakes and rivers and hills and trees and it is breathtaking from the air.

We took a bike ride, took a long walk, and participated in a sibling video call, thanks to surprisingly good cell service.  It’s non-existent nearly everywhere else.

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
