Meals are usually fairly communal with this crowd and this morning’s breakfast was no exception. Egg/muffin sandwiches, bacon, fruit and all the fixin’s made for a hearty meal. We would be a good advertisement for Blackstone grills as there were at least two of them in operation this morning. One of them manned by yours truly.
Our size and the amount of stuff we have to pack along does not allow for a Blackstone so we make use of others’ when available.
First outing for the day was kayaking on Duck Lake. We normally prefer rivers but Duck Lake was a pleasant paddle, made so by the presence of good friends.
Today was cooler and quite windy, with a high of only about 60, so definitely a feel of Fall in the air. We intended to paddle around the entire lake, but when we rounded the east end and paddled along the south shore, the strong north wind was whipping up the waves and making it difficult to maintain speed and direction. So we padded across the lake to the north shore where it was more protected and calm.
When done with this, we headed into Whitehall and had lunch at Pekadills. We’ve been there before but the rest of the group had not and they thought it was a real treat.
Pekadills is just down the street from Klinefelter’s Gallery, so we stopped there and talked with Paul for a bit. Then we drove to the bike trail in Montague, unloaded the bikes and pedaled north on the bike trail to Country Dairy, about 12 miles in distance. Always nice to have a destination for these sorts of things, especially one involving food.
After arriving back at the campsite, we had a group dinner of hamburgers on the Blackstone, baked beans, and corn salad. Only one more meal with this crowd and then we strike off on our own.
