Our first day is now in the books. Typical of every day we’ve been here it was cloudless and warm, topping out at about 80 degrees. That looks to be the pattern for the next week or so. We from West Michigan are just not used to this consistent and abundant sunshine, but we are enjoying it.
After devotions and some initial paperwork, Steve and I set to working on the water heater problem. The heater itself has already been moved to a different location, so we just need to fix all this up to make this room usable again. This has apparently been like this for several months now so Bob and Mary are anxious to get the use of the room again. So clean-up, removing nails and staples where the old drywall was, insulation, drywall, and making a door to fit over the space where the water heater was. A big part of the time is spent looking for the materials to do the job. Steve has been here numerous times, so he knows where a lot of the stuff is, but things get moved, the wood shop gets taken over by material storage for the annual yard sale, and the drywall is piled under a huge pile of other lumber, requiring the use of the tractor to move things around.
But by the end of the day, we had all the wall cavities filled with insulation, we had the first piece of drywall cut and fitted and we should be able to hang quite a bit of the drywall tomorrow.
Deb and Sharon worked on lining drawers and cabinet shelves with liner in the new kitchen that’s nearly complete in the N house (everything is labelled here by alphabet letter). I’ll have to coax her to get a few pictures sometime.
We had lunch with some of the staff and the kids in the dining hall. It’s a treat to be served lunch and we will get spoiled, not having to prepare lunch for ourselves. Just show up and eat. How cool is that? They also said we could come for dinner but we didn’t plan for this. We’ve got so much food packed in the RV that we need to use some of it up.
Afterwards the cook took Deb and Sharon through the walk-in coolers and said they could have nearly anything they wanted. A lot of the food is donated and they just received a whole bunch of fresh fruit. Deb came away with a big box of plump strawberries and we had some for dinner.
We are being treated well here.
