Sunday

Yeah, I’m not real creative with the titles lately.

For church this morning we accompanied the boys to a church in Monett, about an hour’s drive from here. This was an opportunity for the boys to sing a couple of songs in front of church, which they will do at other area churches as well.  So we all piled into the big van and drove the hour to Connection Point Church in Monett.

The hour’s drive gave an opportunity to have some conversations with a few of the boys.  We talked about aspirations of joining the Army, particularly the Green Berets.  We talked about video game coding; one of them was interested in this and had coded some video games with his friends in the past.  We found the ones we talked with to be engaging and interested and even passionate about the things they were interested in.

A couple of them in the back wanted to sleep, but the road was far too curvy and hilly to allow this.

Ken Ortman, the founder of the LUC Ranch, gave the sermon and spoke on 2 Timothy 4:5: But as for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.  These four areas he covered by example, with stories from the ranch.  I’m sure there are many stories he could be telling.

The boys sang their songs at the end of the service.  We sat in on one of their practice sessions last Thursday after having dinner with them and now we heard them sing in the church.

We were invited to participate in the potluck at church so we had dinner with them. We found out that their youth pastor shares the same last name as we do and we talked a little bit about the origins of our names, ours from the Dutch, theirs from the Scottish.

Another hour to drive back to the ranch and we had the rest of the day with no agenda, what was left of it.  We took a long walk around the ranch and out the driveway and also streamed our own church service so we could keep up.

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
