Somewhere I missed a day. Or gained a day. We overnighted in Oklahoma on Tuesday, which I thought was a Wednesday. So instead of arriving at my sister’s on Thursday, it was now Wednesday morning and we were about four hours from her place. A day early. Not sure how this happened, but when I realized this, I called her up and told her of our miscalculation. She graciously invited us to spend an additional night which we accepted.
It’s not often that we have an unexpected day available. I’ll have to figure out how to do that more often.
The casino parking lot was blissfully quiet overnight. Even with windows open. Unfortunately we left them open a little too long and the 36-degree temperatures overnight made for a rather cold morning. We had to use some of that free electricity to warm up.
We drove towards Dallas, stopping first at the H-E-B store in Plano. If you want to see a real life example of what a kid in a candy store looks like, just get Deb into an H-E-B grocery store. I’ll have to admit, they’ve got a fantastic selection. We stocked up on some food items so we could make a meal for them this evening. We found a decent deal on Wagyu beef and bought a few Wagyu steaks. We also bought some grapefruit.
When we were in Texas two years ago, we discovered grapefruit. We’ve become fans. Not only grapefruit, but Melogolds and Pommelos. It’s the right time of the year for grapefruit and it is cheap and plentiful. We even get decent ones back home in Michigan. We now have a 10-pound bag in the RV. It’s a citrus party here.
We navigated the Dallas traffic to my sister’s house and spent part of the afternoon preparing the meal we had just purchased. It’s always fun to experiment and we did just that, cooking up the steaks in a sous vide fashion, in sealed bags in a big pot of water. A final sear on the grill and they were ready. Turned out great.
We spent the rest of the evening catching up. I didn’t take a single picture today; I’ll have to make sure to do so tomorrow.
