Virtual Friday

It’s a virtual Friday today.  End of the work week.  Since we work four days a week, our Friday begins on Thursday and starts the three-day weekend.

So the first week of work is now completed and we managed to do some real damage to the task list.  Today we completed six trash can frames.  Built out of pressure-treated lumber, these things will probably survive a Category-5 hurricane without falling over.  They will probably need a forklift to move these things, once the sides and lids are completed, but there will be no rolling trash cans here.

The first one took an hour to build, the last one probably took about 15 minutes.  We had developed sort-of an assembly-line system, with Rob cutting all the pieces out of 16-foot two-by-fours, and Tony and I assembling the pieces according to the pattern we had worked out.

Once we were done with this, we joined the others at the firing range and helped build structures for targets.

Maybe a few too many for the task at hand, but Josh was busy keeping everyone supplied and also starting to prepare for 430 people coming this weekend.

When we asked what kind of guns are used at his range, we were told that you can bring anything you want.  This is Texas, after all.

Most of the women painted.  And painted.  It’s a thing here.

Others finished up the mountains of laundry they have been doing for the last few days.  Just in time for the weekend and to do it all over again.

I received a package today in the mail.  Interesting mail delivery here.  The mail gets piled on the road just outside the service gate.  No box, no bringing it to the office, but on the road.  So when Deb went to look for the package, she had to dig through the pile along the road.  The package had the parts I had ordered for our RV engine.  After work, I set about to installing them.

It took under a half hour.  I’ve had this engine apart down to this level multiple times, so it was out with the bad parts, and in with the good parts, and we will find out how good they do the next time we drive it down the road.  The parts seem to fit better, however.  It’s far more pleasant working on this in a parking area with a cold engine than alongside the road with a hot engine.

Taking a walk after having dinner, we saw the big smoker being prepared for use.  Saturday’s lunch is BBQ beef and it’s probably worth hanging around for.  All the meals have been pretty great, we have been treated well here.

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
