On the Road Again

On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again
I can't wait to get on the road again

From On the Road Again by Willie Nelson

And here we are, the evening before hitting the road for a place we’ve never been.  We’ve spent lots of time carefully packing bags so as to meet the size and weight limits of Turkish Airlines.  Tomorrow we will drive to Chicago and join a bunch of others from our tour group in Terminal 5 at O’Hare Airport, boarding a plane bound for Istanbul.  It’s too bad we won’t be spending any time in Istanbul, I hear it’s quite a place.  From there we’ll board another plane, ending up in Izmir, Turkey, to start our tour of the seven churches of the Revelation.  I’ll try to keep this updated as we travel.  In addition to my own hen-scratches and hieroglyphics, the tour group is keeping a  group blog, so I may have even more photo fodder to pick from when I work on my own.  The group blog is here.

Three hours to O’Hare, nearly eleven hours to Istanbul, and an hour and a half to Izmir, with all their layovers thrown in, it’s the least anticipated part of the trip.  Yuck.  For a tall person, the seat pitch in economy class on an overnight flight is less than optimal and even something to be dreaded.  But, we’ll endure, somehow.
