A SOWER Friday

Today is Thursday, but it is a virtual Friday for us SOWERs.  Since we work four days a week, Thursday is our Friday.

Devotions this morning from Tim Kenny, VP of Media Ministries.  He talked on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8: , particularly the phrase “...a time to cast away stones.” He related this to the extra baggage we carry around as Christians--the baggage of grudges, misunderstandings, and the like.  Hebrews 12 also references this: Let us also lay aside every weight...   The stones are anything which cause disunity and they can decrease the effectiveness of the message of Christ.

He used as an example the story of the Memphis Belle, a World War II bomber.  On one bombing run, the 25th for this flight crew, the Memphis Belle took on heavy damage over Germany.  Two engines were out and the plane was losing altitude.  In order to lighten the load as they flew towards home, they threw overboard anything that was not tied down: armaments, extra ammunition, seats.  Without doing this, they would have crashed.  Instead they made it home, by laying aside, casting away, any extra weight.

After devotions, we returned to the chapel to continue yesterday’s work of replacing railing boards, filling the screw/nail holes with Bondo, and painting.  At the end of the day, most of the rotted boards marked for replacement had been replaced, but the painting will take a while yet.  This building has a LOT of deck, on several levels.

The women worked in the chapel again, greeting visitors as they came in.  There was a fairly steady stream of visitors in the morning, but Deb was there from 1pm until 4pm and there weren’t many visitors during that time, so they mostly read or talked with each other.

After finishing up our day, we made dinner, then pulled up stakes and hit the Interstate, driving east.  We will be spending the weekend visiting our nephew, Scott, who is in the Marines and stationed at the Marine station in Cherry Point, NC, a six-hour drive from Asheville.  We drove for a few hours then stopped for the night near Greensboro, in a Cracker Barrel parking lot.

This one is located right next to Interstate 40 and so there’s quite a bit of road noise.  In addition, Friday must be trash day for all the area businesses because, starting at 4am, several dumpsters were emptied, as evidenced by racing Diesel engines and clanging and banging.  In spite of this, we slept well.

Abigail called later on in the evening.  She has turned a corner and was feeling much better today.  The last few days have been rather rough, but things are looking up now.

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
