Get Ready, Get Set...

We chose our leaving date as tomorrow, September 11, for a variety of reasons.  One of them was to allow enough time to explore the country between here and North Carolina, our ultimate destination, without having to drive pell-mell for many hours at a time.  Let’s wander for a while; maybe drive a few hours, then explore the area where we are.  So we will wander across New York to the Adirondacks, then perhaps down through Pennsylvania and other states, hitting state parks or other attractions along the way, and eventually arriving in Lake Waccamaw at the end of September, and then spend three weeks volunteering at the Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina, a campus for at-risk children.

Another reason for the date was that we didn’t want to miss today’s Lakeside Service, one of the highlights of the church calendar, in my opinion.  Taking place at the Conference Grounds along Lake Michigan, we have a worship service, a baptism, and a picnic-like meal for the entire church. Eighteen people were baptized in the lake, and hearing the testimonies from each of these is always a blessing.  The weather was fantastic, so it was just a great day.

Some additional packing today, more food in the RV; the fridge is getting quite full.  I’m also stowing some of the technology, like cameras, computers, my drone, etc., making sure that all the batteries are charged.  It’s surprising how many batteries are coming along to power all these devices, all needing their charge and a place to plug in.  Managing wires sometimes is a challenge.

I also topped off the fresh water tank and hung the bikes on the back with the covers on.  The weather forecast calls for lots of rain tomorrow so I didn’t want to do this in the rain tomorrow morning.  First day of travel: raining...  A great way to start a trip.

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
