Summer's End

After the hottest Labor Day I can remember in a long time, there’s definitely some Fall-ish feel to the air. it was mostly overcast today and I actually had a hoodie on this evening when I was outside just after sunset.  We were out hiking in a park with friends today and saw a tinge of color on some trees and particularly the Virginia Creeper vines clinging to the trees were showing some bright amber and crimson hues.  September is definitely here.

I worked on the RV today, testing all the various systems prior to leaving.  It’s definitely easier to fix things here at home where I have tools and parts available, and a driveway to work on it.  This type of pre-flight checkout is always necessary because this house-on-wheels is subjected to a continual earthquake as it bumps down the road and things shake apart and break. I found several door hinges and drawer slides with loose screws that had to be dealt with.  I also found out that the tank level monitor was no longer working.  Crawling under the RV I saw that the sensors had a lot of crud and grime all over them.  These sensors are pasted to the outside of the tanks and exposed to everything underneath the vehicle.  So there were electronic components sprouting little beards of grime around their exposed electrical connections, which is never a good thing.  I scrubbed this all off with alcohol and an old tooth brush, rinsed it liberally with water and blew it dry using compressed air.  I then slathered the whole business in silicone to prevent this from happening again.  Now it’s working.

I also managed to get the air conditioning fixed.  As an engineer, sometimes I will overthink things and I had the whole dash apart over the last couple of days, looking for blockages or stuck blend doors but finding nothing.  In the end, it was just a case of low refrigerant.  I bought a can of refrigerant at an auto parts store and managed to charge it back up.  Now the driver’s side blows ice cold.

Heat?  Bring it on!  We're ready!

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
