Another First

It seems like everywhere you go around here, any town you come to, always has a First Baptist Church.  Lake Waccamaw is no exception.  When looking for a church to go to this morning, we looked at several area churches and settled on First Baptist Church.  One nice thing about FBC was that it is located less than a mile from where we are camped so we were able to walk there.  Not having to disconnect the RV from its electrical and water umbilicals and drive conspicuously into a small parking lot was a big plus.

We arrived to a nearly full auditorium and found one of the few seats left in the back.  The service was a blessing.  Scriptural preaching on the role of deacons from Acts 6.  A testimony from a deacon who was just coming on board very eloquently spoken and theologically sound.  And afterwards, we had several people greet us with a handshake and a good Southern hospitality greeting.  Talking with one older guy, he said right away, “You’re not from around here, are you?”

“No, we’re from Michigan.  We don’t do the Southern accent at all.”

“Well, I can teach you how to talk like a Southerner,” he told us.  “Just pronounce the word hey’ell.  In the South, the word hey’ell has two syllables.”  It took me a bit to figure out that the word he was referring to was hell.  Interesting choice of words standing in the parking lot of a church.

It was a delightful, God-honoring time.  We will be back.

It was a great day of rest today.  We didn’t go anywhere.  We took a bike ride and went on a walk.  I did spend some time cleaning out the outside storage compartment that held a jug of blackwater treatment fluid.  After leaking about a half gallon of the stuff, everything in that compartment was soaked with it, including my tool kit, two bags of wheel chocks, and a couple lengths of rope.  Everything had to come out, I hosed it all out and am now letting it dry.  Hopefully this won’t happen again.

It feels like we are camped in the fairgrounds.  We are right behind a large exhibition barn and there were events going on the entire day today, complete with announcements, people with number tags prancing horses around the ring, and a number of horse trailers coming in and out all day.  I’m not sure what exactly is going on, some sort of show.

We were warned that, this coming Wednesday, a barrel racing event is happening that will last until Sunday.  The entire place is booked up so we will lose our RV sites during that time and will have to move to a different location with fewer hookups. This will be a happening place then.

Tomorrow we start work.  Devotions at 7:30, then work starts at 8.  No more sleeping in...

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
