Monday, The First Day

Cool start to the day, 37 degrees.  Our little heater struggled to keep things warm overnight.  But it warmed up to a great work day, and we were down to shirt sleeves in the afternoon.

After morning devotions we loaded up what tools we had and several drove to the axe throwing structure.  Being in a rather small RV, I don’t have room for a lot of tools, other than those carried along to fix the RV on the road, so I have to rely on the project or on others for tools.  But there were plenty of impact drivers to go around and we set to disassembling the targets and the back walls, which are all made out of two-by-eights held together with lots of screws.  After many hits with axes, things can get pretty splintered up and in need of replacing.

Once the targets were off, the back walls were removed.  I don’t know if someone will repaint the graphics on the walls, but I do know that we will not.  By noon we had all the back walls off and were starting to put new lumber up.

By the end of the day, all the back walls were up and several had the target lumber mounted on them.  We will probably finish this tomorrow by noon.

The women worked with the RVICS women and painted haint blue under the roof of the lounge building.  This is going to be a big job because of the exposed beams under the roof and the painting being done with brush and roller.  It all had to be cleaned first using wire brushes.  All the old swallow nests and mud dauber nests and cobwebs had to come off before painting.  So it doesn’t look like a lot was done.  That haint blue is starting to show up.

I would have sprayed it, but I am not the group leader or the project coordinator.

The camp fed us lunch, a chicken fajita bowl which was very good.  On most projects I end up losing a few pounds, but on this one I will probably gain some.  We are treated well here.

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
