Making Bigger Holes

It was a blustery night last night, although we didn’t get as much rain as expected.  Wind gusts rocked the RV nearly all night and noise from the occasional rain on the roof was rather distracting at times.  It was still windy when we headed to the cafeteria for devotions this morning, although the day was now perfectly clear.  When working outside, the best place to work was in the sunshine as the wind made the shadowed areas rather chilly.

We split up as usual after devotions, most of the women heading to the tabernacle to continue their work on the benches.  The number of benches suddenly doubled overnight so they had their job security.

Most of the guys returned to the building known as the Gulf Coast North Lodge to continue work on the air conditioning.  I went to the shop to repair a golf cart.  It took me a couple hours, but I found the poor acceleration problem to be a sticky throttle cable. Makes sense since anything metal corrodes almost instantly out here.  I then joined the other guys working on the Lodge.

With seven of us working on four rooms, we soon made all the holes in the building a lot bigger.

I sure hope we get those A/C units soon.  With these big holes in the building, we have to board it up every night to keep the weather out.

We ran into a few surprises along the way.  In one room we found a rather significant post hidden inside the wall which needed to be cut out to make room for the new A/C units.  It took a bit of consultation between most of us, and even digging up the plans of the building to determine whether this post was supporting the building.  In the end we went ahead and cut it out as it appeared to be mostly for holding a drywall joint and supporting the old A/C unit.

We’ve also had to reroute a few wires and convert the electrical supply from 3-phase to single-phase for the new A/C.

At the end of the day two of the four holes are rough-framed for the new A/C and the other two are close.  Not bad for two days’ worth of work.

Lunch was provided again by the staff here at TBE.  Again, what a treat to enjoy a provided meal.  Food always tastes better when someone else prepares it.

I took a couple aerial pictures of the campus after work was done.  I thought the roof with the Texas flag was a nice touch.

We had time enough after a light supper to take a walk through town before the sun set.  At least this time we weren’t chased back by big black clouds.  Our devotions after supper reminded us that all of creation is God’s canvas, and all of it speaks of his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature. (Romans 1:20).  And the sunset we saw during our walk put the exclamation point on that idea.  God painted a beautiful sunset for us today.  What a privilege to be able to enjoy it.

Home Again

We’re home.  We made the usual stop in Shipshewana, Indiana at Deb’s favorite grocery store, then came straight home, arriving at about 1pm....
